I have looked into these 2 publishers and researched what the have published.
Mary Glasgow has published a number of magazines. Some of these are aimed at young people, but not really around the age of my target audience.'Club' and 'Click' have both been published by Mary Glasgow.
These magazines are mainly gossip magazines, where as mine is a music magazine. Before researching media institutions, I had never heard of this publishing company or any of the magazines they produce. This made me want to think again about my options, so I returned to my style model.
The Top of the Pops magazine has been my main style model and insperation through out my coursework. The BBC distrubutes this magazine, and it seemed logical for mine to be the same. I think that my magazine has more music content than Top of the Pops. Therefore I think that it would be appropriate for the BBC to distrubute my magazine, as the content is different to my style model. I also felt reassured by the fact that I had heard of the majority of the BBC's magazines and they are an iconic and successful company. Also I think that this could make my magazine more appealing to a larger audience, so could hopefully expand my target audience.
I also wanted to think furthur about my magazine distrubution, and what sort of places I would like to sell my magazine. I think that stores such as WHSmiths would be a sensible place as they sell a wide range of magazines that appeal to people off all ages and all interest. But, not many music magazines. I went to a WHSmith store and found there was a very slim number of music magazines. This was another point that made me consider a store like this, as I think there is definatly a gap in the market for another music magazine.
