These are my recce photos. I was already set on where and when I wanted to take my pictures. I wanted to do a Q&A page on my double page spread, and ask questions about my star's homelife. So decided to take my pictures in my living room as this was the place I could get a homely atmosphere. For my front cover, I was sure I wanted a white background, due to the convensions of pop magazines. So I found a plain cream and a plain blue wall to take my pictures infront of. I thought this would be easy to edit because it was one solid colour. But I didn fnd that I had some shadow and there were some dark and light patches (with and without a flash).

Risk Assessment
Risk

Solution
|
Wires - tripping
|
Wires
should be taped up and people should be warned about where the wires are.
There should also be signs to remind people of the trip hazard.
|
Dropping
Equipment
|
Dropping
valuable equipment can affect the whole photo shoot – for example if a camera
was to be broken. Back up equipment should be available encase anything were
to break or be dropped.
|
Slipping
on the floor
|
People
can slip on wet floors or on shiny surfaces with inappropriate shoes. It
should be checked that the floor isn’t wet and that shoes cannot slide. Also,
cleaning equipment should be checked encase it leaves anything on the floor
which could be hazardous – for example some polishes can make a floor slippy.
|
Hot
lights
|
People
need to take extra care when near lights, as some can get very hot. They
should be switched off when not in use to prevent over heating.
|
There are not very many risks when
using a plain background, as the photo shoot would take place in my house. This means that a house would be a good and safe place to take photos
for the cover and double page spread of my magazine. There are a lot more
hazards when shooting in other areas such as outside in a wooded area for
example, the ground could be uneven causing people to trip and it is also
difficult to transport equipment.

Analysing Pop Magazines
I have done several textual analyses of music magazines from various genres. By doing this, it helped me look at convensions and patterns within music magazines and also helped me get a few ideas for my own magazine. Although textual analysis can be time consuming, it was very useful, I was able to compare and contrast texts and study individual aspects like fonts, colour etc...

Niche vs. Mass Markets
A niche market is a small target audience with a unique interest. A mass market is a large audience and a product can be sold to many different types of people.
An example of a niche market is Shindig! Magazine.
A bi-monthly music magazine containing vintage psychedelia, garage, folk rock, sunshine pop, freak rock, power pop, acid folk, progressive rock and myriad other strains of underexposed, near-forgotten pop music. (£5.50 per issue)
Shindig! Magazine is now promoting themselves in social networking sites, for example MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, this could help appeal to a wider audience. This magazine costs around £4.50 and around £11 for annual copies. This magazine appeals to people who don't take an interest in more modern music and some members of niche audiences are willing to pay alot of money for something that can be linked to their interest.

On the other hand is mass markets. They appeal to a very large target audience and alot of people can take interest in this topic. For example, Kerrang! Magazine is a very popular, weekly rock magazine (although it contains other genres). Kerrang! has a much larger target audience of over 350,000 readers every week. So this would indicate that the magazine has a mass market that appeals to a wide age range.
